The theatre opened in 1968 and has since developed into one of the leading venues for performing arts and entertainment in the region.

The auditorium inside Oakengates Theatre is a flexible space ready to cater for a wide range of events, fully equipped with all of the latest technology and able to seat over 600 people.

Often hosting a range of events, the venue is home to live comedy, music, drama, children's shows, community performances, presentations and during the holiday season, pantomime.

As a community focused venue, Oakengates balances the opportunity to experience professional productions alongside local community projects, all performed within the same high standard facilities.

Outside of the main space, the theatre also has a range of other facilities that are all available for hire. The Gallery Bar is a new space that can adapt to a variety of events, hosting touring exhibitions and work by artists alongside being used as a hospitality area for clients.

The theatre now also contains The Place, a children's centre that offers a unique selection of services to users in the area.
